The meaning of “Clementine”?
From Alex’s perspective:
I lost my father when I was young, and for a long time, my grandfather was the steady male figure in my life. He was my constant until we lost him to Alzheimer’s.
One memory that stands out is him teasing me about the names I gave my pets. He said I should choose something “more feminine,” like “Clementine”. I smile at that memory now, because over time the name has come to mean something much deeper to me.
Years later, Keenan and I named our first dog Clementine, a name that felt full of meaning even before we knew what it would come to represent. But when we lost her suddenly, just two years later, the grief hit us in a way we didn't expect. Despite having experienced loss and trauma before, this was different. Words can barely capture the emotional journey that followed and the way it forced us to grow in unexpected ways.
Naming our clinic “Clementine” is more than a tribute to those we’ve loved and lost. It reflects everything we’ve been through and all that has shaped us; the love, the grief, and the lessons that taught us how to hold space for others.
Our hope is that this space offers others what we’ve found through our own experiences: a place to navigate pain, discover resilience, and grow into the fullest versions of themselves.
